The Scientist - Coldplay

“Come up to meet you, tell you I’m sorry, you don’t know how lovely you are. I had to find you, tell you I need you, tell you I’ll set you apart….Nobody said it was easy; no one ever said it would be this hard. “Oh, take me back to the start,”….I was just guessing at numbers and figures, pulling your puzzles apart. Questions of science, science and progress- do not speak as loud as my heart…”

Solar Flare - Trey Lockerbie

“Let the rain heat the machine…there’s a solar flare coming baby we don’t need ‘em anyhow. On this cinematic morn’- salvation’s in your senses, I- the day is soaking wet but I will keep you warm…My love, because, oh, haven’t you learned? Oh, it’s never really love until it burns. So let go of all your false predictions- ‘cause I know the forecast true…”

Amazing - Blue October

“I dig up the thought of how your eyes glow. So I make you my religion, my collision, an escape goat. So have I found your secret weak spot, baby? Can you pretend I’m amazing? I can pretend I’m amazing… Instead of what we both know. Cut to the punch line baby, Can you pretend I’m amazing?”

Old Timer -  NeverShoutNever

“Old timer, You’re preachin’ at me, you seem to think that we are so damn different, but we’re not….You don’t know the difference between social identity and the truth. You’ve been conditioned your whole existence, but you just haven’t understood.”

Laughter Lines(Bonus Track) - Bastille

“You took me to your favourite place on earth, to see the tree they cut down ten years from your birth. Our fingers traced in circles round its history, we brushed our hands right back in time through centuries. As you held me down, you said “I’ll see you in the future when we’re older, when we are full of stories to be told.” cross my heart, and hope to die- I’ll see you with your laughter lines…”

Spaceman - The Killers

“You know I might have just flown too far from the floor this time, ‘cause they’re calling me by my name, and the zipping white light beams disregards the bombs and satellites. That was the turning point that, was one lonely night….You’re caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. You better look it over, before you make that leap; and you know I’m fine, but I hear those voices at night sometimes. They justify my claim, and the public don’t dwell my transmission ‘cause it wasn’t televised, but it was the turning point- oh what a lonely night.”

Leader of the Pack(Re-Recorded) - The Shangri-Las

“I met him at the candy store, he turned around and smiled at me…That’s when I fell for the leader of the pack. My folks were always putting him down, down, down. They said he came from the wrong side of town…He sort of smiled and kissed me goodbye, the tears were beginning’ to show, as he drove away on that rainy night. I begged him to go slow- but whether he heard, I’ll never know.”

Show Me Your Soul - Red Hot Chili Peppers

“In a world that can be so insane, I don’t think it’s very strange for me to be in love with you- I wanna know more than your brain…Not something that I expected, now I smile from your affection. We have made a soul connection, just for whom does your bell toll? Don’t be cold, show me your soul….I am you- you’re my best friend.”

Another Go - Mieka Pauley

“I’d like to learn the science of making choices. I’d like to learn the art of knowing when…Does someone, somewhere, know the trick to time travel, that let’s me act on everything I know now?…This time I swear that I will consult the experts- and they will lay me out a logical plan, you have my word that I will consult the experts…Let’s have another go.”

Show You How To Love - Pentatonix

“Out of my mind- my heart is racing. I’m out of breath, and I’m wasting my time. She’s looking at me like she’s never seen me running round her head, oh. Yeah, so will you dance with me, or do I have to show you how to love instead?…Gimme one chance, and I promise that I’ll show you the way.”

Stars - Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

“I followed your ashes into outer space. I can’t look out the window- I can’t look at this place….All those times we looked up at the sky- looking out so far, it felt like we could fly- and now I’m all alone in the dark of night, and the moon is shining, but I can’t see the light, and I can’t look at the stars.”

A Sky Full Of Stars - Coldplay

“You light up the path. I don’t care, go on and tear me apart, I don’t care if you do. Ooh ‘cause in a sky- ‘cause in a sky full of stars, I think I saw you”

All Of The Stars - Ed Sheeran

“It’s just another night and I’m staring at the moon, I saw a shooting star and thought of you…So open your eyes and see the way our horizons meet…I looked across, and fell in love, so I took your hand, back through lamp-lit streets- and knew everything led back to you.”

The Graveyard Near The House - The Airborne Toxic Event

“We probably look just as silly now…I can’t pretend that I can tell you what is going to happen next or how to be. You have no idea about me, do you?… sometimes, you seem so strange to me, I must seem strange to you. We’re like two actors playing two parts. Did you memorize your lines? ‘Cause I did. Here’s the part where I get so mad. I tell you that I can’t forget the past. You get so quiet now, and you seem somehow like a lost and lonely child- and you just hope that the moment won’t last.”

"Shatner, when asked, ‘What do you think about this trend in fandom, where Kirk and Spock are more than friends?’ Shatner looked at the interviewer, laughed and said, ‘Well, they’re gay, what do you think?’"

deforestkisses asked:

Omg so when my aunt and my mom would watch Star Trek on TV Chekov was my aunt's favorite character right and so literally when he would appear on screen she would lick the television and my grandfather would get mad at her because she was "gonna electrocute herself" and she told me that one time she said "good maybe then I'll zap away into Chekov's lap" and my grandfather grounded her

I have nothing to add to this story it’s already perfect.

Emotional Intimacy — Why Kirk/Spock is so compelling

The term “intimate relationship” is often used as a substitute for a romantic relationship.  Indeed, if you search the term on Wikipedia, it notes that an intimate relationship commonly implies a sexual relationship or is even used as a euphemism for such.

Kirk and Spock’s physical relationship doesn’t include certain romantic/sexually intimate gestures such as kissing on the lips, and yet, their interactions are defined by intimacy.  Part of this is due to the fact that Spock is Vulcan and thus, when he touches Jim, the gesture holds far more significance than it would between two human characters.  And, of course, there are gestures of intimacy unique to Vulcan culture, such as kissing with hands.

The fascination I have with their relationship, though, is due to how emotionally intimate they are because it adds such meaning, tenderness, and affection to all of their actions.  It gives them a synergy that I think no two other characters truly match.

In TOS, they understand and trust each other on the deepest level — which carries over into the films.  They are each other’s support and, in many ways, their relationship is the foundation onto which the series is built.  It’s no coincidence, for example, that in the very first episode of TOS, we are told that Kirk is the person Spock is closest to — the closest thing he has to a friend.  And the last episode of the series — Turnabout Intruder — has Kirk tell Spock (while in Janice Lester’s body) that Spock is the person to whom he is closest in the entire universe and Spock knows his thoughts.

This level of understanding, acceptance, and love gives them a level of emotional intimacy that makes it clear they are the most important people in each other’s lives.

With the reboots, I also find this to be the case, particularly after Into Darkness was released.  Kirk and Spock, being the main characters, are the most complex, developed members of the cast — we know by far the most about them.

Where their relationship shines is in the level of interaction they develop, their building ties, and reliance on one another.  Scenes throughout the film build their relationship.  We see that, although they are in conflict with each other at points, there is still respect and affection between them — such as when Kirk confesses that he will miss Spock and when he wants him to know why he went back for him.  They consult with and deeply respect one another — again, Kirk listens to Spock regarding Harrison’s assassination.  Or the level of understanding between them — as Kirk is getting ready to leave and make the jump to the Vengeance, Spock immediately understands his plan and is concerned over his state of mind.  And Kirk trusts Spock to take care of the ship — trusts him more than he trusts himself — and acknowledges his mistakes and weaknesses.  When Kirk lays dying, it is Spock he looks to for comfort and it is the pain Kirk’s death that drives Spock’s anger.

It is this building relationship that I found to be the most captivating aspect of Into Darkness.  The two open up to each other, rely on one another, and come to understand each other in a way no other characters do, in my opinion.  They both make important confessions to each other in this film — with Kirk stripping off the bravado to confess that he has no idea what he is supposed to do.  That the cocky, arrogant exterior is just a front for a man who is simply trying to do what he can to make things better.  Spock himself also confesses to Kirk — that he doesn’t know how NOT to feel.  And this serves to reveal that he can’t — that what we feel isn’t a matter of choice in the first place.

In both universes, the relationship is beautiful because this level of emotional intimacy makes them better people — makes them greater together than they are apart.  Into Darkness illustrates this during Kirk’s death scene.  Spock’s ability to use what Harrison wanted against him was something he learned from Kirk — what he would have done.  And Kirk’s sacrifice for the crew is something he knows Spock would have done as well should their places be reversed.

They inspire each other to new heights, to be better than they were before, and that is why their relationship to each other defines them.
